Special Days

Today happens to be my brother’s birthday.  We often remember others on special days.  It is a great opportunity to honor them.  It can make it easier to honor those we don’t know as well too.
Do you ever find it awkward to accept praise or compliments from others?  If so, it may be because far too many of us get busy and forget to compliment those we encounter.  If you tell a co-worker she looks really pretty today or he looks very handsome, she/he may be surprised.  Of course, in the United States, unfortunately, we have experienced too much sexual harassment in the workplace and must be careful what we say.
Either we don’t think about the positive attributes of those around us or we censor what we say because we fear the other person will find us strange.  But, I encourage you to try to appropriately compliment others – your family, the cashier at the grocery, the nurse at the doctor’s office, your child’s teacher.  Let me challenge you a bit more though – how about the guy who zips in front of you and takes the parking space or the lady who cuts in line in front of you or the rude waiter who serves your dinner cold.  If you can’t find a pleasant thing to say, then offer a brilliant and warm smile.
Find a way to make every day a special day for at least one other person.  It will make your day special too!
